The film shows one working day in the orthopaedic ward at one of Warsaw’s hospitals. While patients wait for help, the medical staff is constantly faced with various obstacles. The surgeon breaks a mallet during the operation, and the doctors lack bandages, equipment, and surgical instruments. They are exhausted, but continue to work selflessly for peanuts.
