The opening frames of the film resemble a fantastic apocalyptic thriller. However, it is in fact last year’s horrifying reality, which reached us from the 11-million-strong city of Wuhan. On 23 January 2020, the city was locked down to fight the outbreak of the novel COVID-19. 76 Days features the impressive stories of the people at the epicentre of the pandemic. We see a woman begging for a chance to say her last goodbye to her father; an old man with dementia who cannot find his way home; a nurse who must return personal belongings to the relatives of the deceased. The intimate stories from the film are testimonies both to overwhelming tragedy and human resilience.
