In late September 2014, students from the Rural Teachers’ College were brutally attacked in the Mexican state of Guerrero by police forces and other masked assailants. Six people were killed, and a further 43 students were abducted and never heard from again. Since then, the families of the students have lived with their unanswered questions and the psychological and emotional toll of violence currently plaguing Mexican society. The famous Chinese artist Ai Weiwei explores how the tragic night of 2014 changed these people’s fates, trying to reveal what is hidden behind the ‘historical truth’, which is being presented as undeniable.
